Oh, my good God in heaven they are back. My poor mother looks like she’s been run over by a truck. Seriously, is that how I look every day of my life? Is that why the only decent picture of me I could find to use in my profile shot is from our vacation to Hawaii two years ago this week?? (Yes, in case you were wondering, that is what’s up with the lei. I don’t usually walk around draped in flowers.) (But I kinda liked it.)
And how’s this for a kicker. If you ever want your child to reach a milestone just get away from them for a few days. They will be completely different people upon their return. Little Claire not only learned how to roll over during her vacation, but she also discovered her feet, so if she is on her back she’s throwing those feet in the air and admiring her (admittedly adorable) toes, and when she has enough of that, she simply flips herself over to her stomach and practices getting up on her knees – which she hasn’t managed to fully achieve yet, but it won’t be long. Stop the insanity, Claire! Mommy can only handle one milestone at a time. So slow it down, sister. Go stare at your feet some more.
And Logan. Between demanding repeats of every single stupid episode of Martha Speaks on the DVR and flipping out because I dared to put a teeny little bite of turkey on his plate beside his chicken dinosaur nuggets, he was busy picking up his sister and dropping her on her face. Thank goodness he was sitting on the couch at the time. Because nose jobs are expensive. And she has been genetically blessed with a great schnoz, so let’s not ruin it now, ok?
Ahhhh, chaos. Welcome home, kids. I missed you.

She's rolling over and everything?? Send her to Granny's again. Maybe when she comes back she'll be potty-trained!! ;) Glad your chaos is back in order!
It is amazing how quickly they can progress. I am glad you had a great weekend and, on some level, the chos is a welcomed return.
Oh, my kids act like I am trying to feed them a live spider if I place certain foods on their plate.
:)
You are lucky - grandma will only take 1 of mine for overnight visits and that is limited to 1 overnight visit. There is no reprieve for us! LOL
Wow, I'm so glad you got a relaxing weekend away. It makes you appreciate the kids after you get to hit the reset button, doesn't it?
Baby toes are the cutest thing ever. I nibble on Elliot's and she cracks up, I love it!
Ha on the turkey on Logan's plate. We can only give Graham ONE food item at a time or he freaks, we have to hide the next course in the kitchen and can't bring it out until he's done with the first course. Ugh. Toddlers. Glad I'm not the only one who's kid is beating up his little sister. :)
How endearing. Dropping one's little sister on her face.
I'm sure the grandparents just aren't in training shape for this parenting chaos - you've built up to it :)
Sounds like they had a great time though! And sounds like you're really glad to have them home again.
Ah, welcome back to the chaos. Enjoy them now. Soon teenagers will emerge from their deepths and cause all sorts of havoc in your lives. Good luck...
Ah, Heather, I'm glad they are back, and I'm right there with you on the milestones - Harry took his first real steps with a friend and I didn't have the heart to tell her I'd missed it. Go toes! And what's with Martha Speaks? I tried the link but will confess to being too lazy to figure it out ;-) Happy chaos!
Ha! Ha! This is my life every time the kids return from Grandma's? Don't you just love the wild look in their eyes and the tire tracks from peeling out of your driveway FAST? (Grandparents, not the kids). They look so disoriented!
I'm sure you don't look like a truck has run you over every day. Just a small car. Or dirt bike.
We left Caroline with my parents for the first time when she was 20 months and still not really talking. We came back after two days and she looked right at me and said, "Mommy!" She had never said it before. My mom said, "Oh she's been saying that all weekend." Babysitter sensitivity training FAIL.
You must be loving this! Admit it!
Oh wow, there's a lot new going on in your house, enjoy!! I love baby toes, especially when littles first discover them, precious!!
There is a new baby at my daughter's daycare, and she is always wanting to pick the little girl up - scares me to death!
Take care,
Steph
BTW, I'm loving the floppy hat picture. She is such a CUTIE!
